2008 Maserati GT Makes Its Debut

JEDDAH, 1 November 2007 — The second new Maserati model to reach the Kingdom made its debut Tuesday night at the Leylaty Ballroom in Jeddah. The Gran Turismo, launched by Fast Auto Technic, the sole Maserati dealer in Saudi Arabia, is a replacement for the aging Maserati Coupe that first saw the light in 2002 .

The car was unveiled by Umberto Cini, manager of Maserati Middle East and Mohammed Al-Sharbatly, president of Fast Auto Technic .

Sixty years after Pininfarina and Maserati combined to produce the first GT. The original GT, built on a racing chassis, made its debut in 1947 when only 58 cars were made

Mamdouh Khayyat, general manager of Fast Auto Technic, said that he was delighted that the luxury sports car segment was increasing in the Kingdom .

“The introduction of this new model, which was launched in Frankfurt last motor show, created a sensation in the auto industry because the vast experience of Maserati in luxury cars exactly met the ambitions of luxury car fans. The new GT has many advanced technical features including a completely automatic gearbox that senses driving style and conditions and enhanced engine.”

It also features Maserati’s electronically controlled Skyhook suspension, which automatically adjusts shock absorber firmness for varying driving and road conditions .

A V8 4.2 engine that delivers 405 hp at 7,100 rpm with 75 percent of its 4,750 Nm available torque at just 2,500 rpm, the car has the punch that makes it very nimble in heavy traffic. It charges from 0 to 100kph in just 5.2 seconds and has a maximum speed of 285kph .
