Porsche revs up for launch of Cayenne

The soft sand dunes and rocky wadis of Dubai provided last year the testing ground for the latest sports utility vehicle (SUV) – the Cayenne from Porsche – to chart the offroads.

The all terrain vehicle is expected to be in the market this year.
Yesterday, Porsche brought two of its legends – the original Porsche 959 which won the 1986 Paris-Dakar rally, and its stable mate Porsche 911 SC which won the rally in 1984, as a build-up for the Cayenne.

And, at the wheel of the 959 was none other than legendary world champion, Jackie Ickx. The 911 SC was yesterday put through its paces by
Mamdouh Khayyat, Middle East rally champion in 1985 and 1992.

“All this comes in the build-up to the launch of the Porsche Cayenne, the off-road SUV we will launch later this year,” said Mark Bishop, managing director of Porsche Middle East.

“The tests here in Dubai were successful. The Cayenne performed with remarkable consistency. From the beginning of the development of the Cayenne, Porsche has taken the market expectations of the Middle East very seriously.

We anticipate this car will take the Middle East by storm,” said Stefan Ruschke, Porsche ME marketing manager.
