Top rally drivers to thrill fans in Toyota Race of Champion

Rally fans are in for thrill and excitement when top Arab international drivers demonstrate their skills on the spectacular rallying arena of Dallah Club on King Road here during the two-day Toyota Race of Champion from Wednesday.

The second annual event, being staged as part of the ongoing Jeddah festival, promises to be highly competitive, with rally drivers from the Middle East and Europe like Abdullah Bakhashab,
Mamdouh Khayyat and Ahmed Sabban of Saudi Arabia, Hamad Al Wahibi of Oman, Rogeh Feghali and Abdo Feghali of Lebanon, Mubarak Al Hajri and Hamad Al Swaidi of Qatar, Muhammed Al Saraf of Kuwait, Bashar Bustami of Jordan, and Amro Shass, Majed Al Ghamdi and Sultan Hamdi, all members of the Toyota Saudi rally team. For the first time Austria’s Akhim Mortal and rally fans are expected to be present.

“I’m happy to take part in the Race of Champions for the second year in a row and hope to perform better than last year. It’s a national championship and we as Saudi drivers hope to win it for our country,”
Saudi Rally Star Mamdouh Khayyat, The 1992 Middle East Champion, said.

After his great performance, last year’s title holder Rogeh Feghali noted that he was coming to the Kingdom to defend his title. “It’s going to be a tough competition this year, but I’m going to repeat my success,” he said prior to his arrival. 

Despite his absence from the rally arena, the runner-up of last year’s race and Oman’s No. 1 rally driver assured his fans that he gave his best shot to win this year’s race against experienced rally drivers. He also praised Abdullah Bakhashab for organizing such an event to develop the rally sport in the Kingdom. 

Qatar champion Mubarak Al Hajri expressed his happiness of being part of big names in the race. “It’s a great idea to be implemented in this part of the world and I’m sure it will go a long way in promoting the rally sport,” he said.Muhammad Al Saraf, who is participating for the first time in the race, said he was looking forward to compete with the best in the region. “It’s an opportunity for me to prove my skills and ability,” he said and complemented the great role Bakhashab is playing to promote the rally sport in the Kingdom.

Jordanian rally driver Bashar Bustami said: “This is my second year of participation and I’m looking forward to the event.”
